Most colours are named for what they look like. Prussian Blue is named for where it was found a dye house in Berlin, early 1700s, an accident in a vat of iron salts. The first synthetic pigment ever made. Before it, painters who wanted this depth of blue had to grind lapis lazuli, a stone rare enough to cost more than gold.
That's the thing about this blue. It isn't simply a shade. It's a specific hue that took centuries to arrive at, and when it did, it changed what painting could be. Hokusai used it in The Great Wave. Vermeer used it to make shadows feel like the inside of a room at dusk.
