Neyth is the Malayalam word for weave.
The weaver sits behind a creaky old contraption, groaning under its own complexity. The loom is her atelier the place where she works, where she thinks, where the work becomes something more than the sum of its parts. She slings shuttles of colour back and forth, the rhythm of it almost mechanical, until the pattern emerges. Something with breathtaking simplicity. Something you couldn't have predicted from watching the process.
That's what a loom does. It takes the repetition of a single crossing motion over, under, over, under and produces something that looks nothing like a crossing motion. It produces texture. It produces structure. It produces something you want to run your hand across.
Neyth: reimagined takes that geometry onto the table. Stoneware, heavier and earthier than porcelain, with the woven pattern worked across each piece by hand. The colours are the muted palette of natural dye ochre, warm white, the brown of undyed cotton.
