There is a specific blue Cobalt Blue that painters have gone to for centuries whenever they needed colour that felt like depth rather than surface. Not the blue of a sky. The blue of what's underneath. The blue of ocean water when you look down into it rather than across it.

The croton leaf is an unlikely vessel for that colour. It's a garden plant, broad and waxy, more common than rare. But paint its veins in cobalt blue, render it at the scale that fills a dinner plate, and something shifts. The leaf becomes the sea. The veins become waves.
